SQUIRREL WARS

He provides food for those who fear him;
    he remembers his covenant forever.
He has shown his people the power of his works,
    in giving them the inheritance of the nations.
The works of his hands are faithful and just;
    all his precepts are trustworthy;
they are established forever and ever,
    to be performed with faithfulness and uprightness.
(Psalm 111:5-8 ESV®)

     My Bride used to get big bags of unshelled peanuts for the squirrels. Putting peanuts on the deck. The word would reach the woods and the squirrels showed up in force. That is when the war would begin. She would sit watching through the patio door. There would be more than enough peanuts for all the squirrels that showed up but they would try to keep each other away. Sharing was not in their nature. “Stop the fighting, there is enough and I have more,” my Bride would yell. But nothing seemed to change their nature to get all for themselves. From past experience they should have known there would be more peanuts.

     When had time to watch the squirrel war, I realized they were just like me. I have a God that has provided for me all my life and I still act as if it all depended on me. God could not take care of tomorrow? The Father has provided me with more than I need but do I always share the blessing God has supplied with others? When I doubt God’s provision or His grace, sometimes the squirrel on the deck come to mind.

     After my Bride when home with Jesus I would still put peanuts out for the squirrels until the bags were empty. The squirrels would still come but there would be no peanuts. Some of the squirrels would put their front feet on the patio door and look in. I had to tell them the lady with the peanuts did not live here anymore. I am so much better off than the squirrels since my God lives forever and loves me forever.
