Zechariah 1:1-6
A Call to Return to the Lord
1 In the
eighth month, in the second year of Darius, the word of the Lord came to the prophet Zechariah, the son of Berechiah, son of Iddo,
saying, 2 “The Lord was very angry with your fathers. 3 Therefore
say to them, Thus declares the Lord of hosts:
Return to me, says the Lord of hosts, and I will return to
you, says the Lord of hosts. 4 Do not be like
your fathers, to whom the former prophets cried out, ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts, Return from your evil ways and from your evil deeds.’ But
they did not hear or pay attention to me, declares the Lord. 5 Your fathers, where are
they? And the prophets, do they live forever? 6 But
my words and my statutes, which I commanded my servants the prophets, did they
not overtake your fathers? So they repented and said, ‘As the Lord of hosts purposed to deal with us for our ways and deeds, so has he
dealt with us.’”
Psalm 85:1-8
Revive Us Again
To the choirmaster. A Psalm of the Sons of Korah.
85 Lord, you were
favorable to your land;
you
restored the fortunes of Jacob.
2 You forgave the iniquity of your people;
you
covered all their sin. Selah
3 You withdrew all your wrath;
you
turned from your hot anger.
4 Restore us again, O God of our
salvation,
and
put away your indignation toward us!
5 Will you be angry with us forever?
Will
you prolong your anger to all generations?
6 Will you not revive us again,
that
your people may rejoice in you?
7 Show us your steadfast love, O Lord,
and
grant us your salvation.
8 Let me hear what God the Lord will speak,
for
he will speak peace to his people, to his saints;
but
let them not turn back to folly.
