Wonders of the Universe
16 And God made the
two great lights—the greater light to rule the day and the lesser light to rule
the night—and the stars.
17 And God set them in the expanse of the
heavens to give light on the earth, 18 to
rule over the day and over the night, and to separate the light from the
darkness. And God saw that it was good. (Genesis
1:16-18 ESV®)
5 And as they were
frightened and bowed their faces to the ground, the men said to them, “Why do
you seek the living among the dead? 6 He is not here, but
has risen. Remember how he told you, while he was still in Galilee, 7 that the Son of Man must be delivered into the
hands of sinful men and be crucified and on the third day rise.”
(Luke 24:5-7 ESV®)
I just observed
the total eclipse and saw people in awe of how God has set the universe in
motion. From the beginning of creation everything has worked in precision. He
still controls all of it and that is what makes it possible for us to predict
when total eclipses will occur.
Seeing the sun/moon go from twilight to night to sunrise in a matter of
minutes was inspiring. The predictability of the universe was reassurance of
the trustworthiness of our God. Looking up at the sky I can see the handy work
of God.
About a week before the total eclipse,
Easter was celebrated. This was an observance of another thing God put into motion. The way
of salvation through the death and resurrection of Jesus. Looking at the cross,
I feel relief from the burden of my sin. The event in the second week of April
was stimulating but what occurred nearly 20 centuries ago in Jerusalem gives me
the security of knowing God of the universe has taken care of the penalty for
my sin.
