Titus 3:1-11
Be Ready for Every Good Work
3 Remind
them to be submissive to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready
for every good work, 2 to speak evil of
no one, to avoid quarreling, to be gentle, and to show perfect courtesy toward
all people. 3 For we ourselves were
once foolish, disobedient, led astray, slaves to various passions and
pleasures, passing our days in malice and envy, hated by others and hating one
another. 4 But when the goodness and
loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, 5 he
saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to
his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit,
6 whom he poured out on us richly through
Jesus Christ our Savior, 7 so that
being justified by his grace we might become heirs according to the hope of
eternal life. 8 The saying is
trustworthy, and I want you to insist on these things, so that those who have
believed in God may be careful to devote themselves to good works. These things
are excellent and profitable for people. 9 But
avoid foolish controversies, genealogies, dissensions, and quarrels about the
law, for they are unprofitable and worthless. 10 As
for a person who stirs up division, after warning him once and then twice, have
nothing more to do with him, 11 knowing
that such a person is warped and sinful; he is self-condemned.
Psalm 21
The King Rejoices in the Lord's Strength
To the choirmaster. A Psalm of David.
21 O Lord, in your strength the king rejoices,
and
in your salvation how greatly he exults!
2 You have given him his heart's desire
and
have not withheld the request of his lips. Selah
3 For you meet him with rich blessings;
you
set a crown of fine gold upon his head.
4 He asked life of you; you gave it to him,
length
of days forever and ever.
5 His glory is great through your salvation;
splendor
and majesty you bestow on him.
6 For you make him most blessed forever;[a]
you
make him glad with the joy of your presence.
7 For the king trusts in the Lord,
and
through the steadfast love of the Most High he shall not be moved.
8 Your hand will find out all
your enemies;
your
right hand will find out those who hate you.
9 You will make them as a blazing oven
when
you appear.
The Lord will swallow them up in his
wrath,
and
fire will consume them.
10 You will destroy their descendants from the
earth,
and
their offspring from among the children of man.
11 Though they plan evil against you,
though
they devise mischief, they will not succeed.
12 For you will put them to flight;
you
will aim at their faces with your bows.
13 Be exalted, O Lord, in your strength!
We
will sing and praise your power.
