Matthew 15:10-20
What Defiles a Person
10 And he called the people to him and said
to them, “Hear and understand: 11 it
is not what goes into the mouth that defiles a person, but what comes out of
the mouth; this defiles a person.” 12 Then
the disciples came and said to him, “Do you know that the Pharisees were
offended when they heard this saying?” 13 He
answered, “Every plant that my heavenly Father has not
planted will be rooted up. 14 Let them
alone; they are blind guides.[a] And if the
blind lead the blind, both will fall into a pit.” 15 But
Peter said to him, “Explain the parable to us.” 16 And
he said, “Are you also still without understanding?
17 Do you not see that whatever goes into the
mouth passes into the stomach and is expelled?[b] 18 But what comes out of the mouth proceeds from the
heart, and this defiles a person. 19 For
out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality,
theft, false witness, slander. 20 These
are what defile a person. But to eat with unwashed hands does not defile
anyone.”

Psalm 138
Give Thanks to the Lord
Of David.
138 I
give you thanks, O Lord, with my whole heart;
before
the gods I sing your praise;
2 I bow down toward your holy temple
and
give thanks to your name for your steadfast love and your faithfulness,
for
you have exalted above all things
your
name and your word.[a]
3 On the day I called, you answered me;
my
strength of soul you increased.[b]
4 All the kings of the earth
shall give you thanks, O Lord,
for
they have heard the words of your mouth,
5 and they shall sing of the ways of the Lord,
for
great is the glory of the Lord.
6 For though the Lord is high, he regards the lowly,
but
the haughty he knows from afar.
7 Though I walk in the midst of
trouble,
you
preserve my life;
you stretch out your hand against the wrath of my enemies,
and
your right hand delivers me.
8 The Lord will
fulfill his purpose for me;
your
steadfast love, O Lord, endures forever.
Do
not forsake the work of your hands.
