Matthew 8:1-17
Jesus Cleanses a Leper
8 When
he came down from the mountain, great crowds followed him. 2 And behold, a leper[a] came to
him and knelt before him, saying, “Lord, if you will, you can make me clean.”
3 And Jesus[b] stretched
out his hand and touched him, saying, “I
will; be clean.” And immediately his leprosy was
cleansed. 4 And Jesus said to him, “See that you say nothing to anyone, but go, show yourself to
the priest and offer the gift that Moses commanded, for a proof to them.”
The Faith of a Centurion
5 When he had entered Capernaum, a
centurion came forward to him, appealing to him, 6 “Lord,
my servant is lying paralyzed at home, suffering terribly.” 7 And he said to him, “I
will come and heal him.” 8 But
the centurion replied, “Lord, I am not worthy to have you come under my roof,
but only say the word, and my servant will be healed. 9 For
I too am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. And I say to one, ‘Go,’
and he goes, and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes, and to my servant,[c] ‘Do this,’
and he does it.” 10 When Jesus heard
this, he marveled and said to those who followed him, “Truly,
I tell you, with no one in Israel[d] have I found such faith. 11 I tell you, many will come from east and west and recline at
table with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven, 12 while the sons of the kingdom will be thrown into the outer
darkness. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”
13 And to the centurion Jesus said, “Go; let it be done for you as you have believed.” And the servant was healed at that very moment.
Jesus Heals Many
14 And when Jesus entered Peter's house, he
saw his mother-in-law lying sick with a fever. 15 He
touched her hand, and the fever left her, and she rose and began to serve him.
16 That evening they brought to him many who
were oppressed by demons, and he cast out the spirits with a word and healed
all who were sick. 17 This was to
fulfill what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah: “He took our illnesses and bore
our diseases.”

Psalm 80
Restore Us, O God
To the choirmaster: according to Lilies. A Testimony. Of
Asaph, a Psalm.
80 Give ear,
O Shepherd of Israel,
you
who lead Joseph like a flock.
You who are enthroned upon the cherubim, shine forth.
2 Before Ephraim and Benjamin and Manasseh,
stir up your might
and
come to save us!
3 Restore us,[a] O God;
let
your face shine, that we may be saved!
4 O Lord God of hosts,
how
long will you be angry with your people's prayers?
5 You have fed them with the bread of tears
and
given them tears to drink in full measure.
6 You make us an object of contention for our
neighbors,
and
our enemies laugh among themselves.
7 Restore us, O God of hosts;
let
your face shine, that we may be saved!
8 You brought a vine out of
Egypt;
you
drove out the nations and planted it.
9 You cleared the ground for it;
it
took deep root and filled the land.
10 The mountains were covered with its shade,
the
mighty cedars with its branches.
11 It sent out its branches to the sea
and
its shoots to the River.[b]
12 Why then have you broken down its walls,
so
that all who pass along the way pluck its fruit?
13 The boar from the forest ravages it,
and
all that move in the field feed on it.
14 Turn again, O God of hosts!
Look
down from heaven, and see;
have regard for this vine,
15 the stock that your right hand planted,
and
for the son whom you made strong for yourself.
16 They have burned it with fire; they have
cut it down;
may
they perish at the rebuke of your face!
17 But let your hand be on the man of your
right hand,
the
son of man whom you have made strong for yourself!
18 Then we shall not turn back from you;
give
us life, and we will call upon your name!
19 Restore us, O Lord God of hosts!
Let
your face shine, that we may be saved!
