Who Is Waiting For You
Who Is Waiting For You
1 “Let not your
hearts be troubled. Believe in God believe also in me. 2 In
my Father's house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that
I go to prepare a place for you 3 And if
I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to
myself, that where I am you may be also. 4 And
you know the way to where I am going.” (John
14:1-7 ESV®)
There was a period
when my Bride was confined to a Rehab Facility for six weeks. She missed her
loving dog and found that the facility allowed dogs to visit. This gave me the
task of bringing Ashlea, my Bride’s schnauzer, for a visit. Since home was
between my work place and the rehab facility, this was looking like an easy
task.
I picked up Ashlea
and headed for a visit with my Bride. Ashlea jumped out of the car since taking
walks was high on her list o likes. Once the sliding doors opened, she took one
whiff and locked her legs. I think her little brain was registering “VETS.” I
picked her up and I could feel her trembling. I walked down to my Bride’s room
and as soon as Ashlea heard her master’s voice, she was excited with joy.
During my Bride’s
stay in the rehab facility, most evenings I would bring Ashlea to visit her
favorite person. Now when the sliding doors opened, she was eager to enter. The
smell did not change but Ashlea now knew who was waiting for her on the other
side.
I have had the same
reaction the first time I got the bad news about having cancer. The doctor was
not gentle about a possible gloomy outcome. I had not given much thought to what
was on the other side after the known reality I knew. I figuratively locked by
legs. The little I knew about the future confused me because my brain created
imagines of things that terrified me. Between having a pastor close and habits
of taking daily trips into the Holy Word, I came across passages that were
reassuring. The God who truly loved me had already taken care of my future. The
Bible reassured me that even if I don’t know for sure what is on the other side
of those sliding doors, I know who is waiting there for me, Jesus
What voice will
you hear when the sliding doors open?
