1 Peter 5:1-11
Shepherd the Flock of God
5 So I
exhort the elders among you, as a fellow elder and a witness of the sufferings
of Christ, as well as a partaker in the glory that is going to be revealed:
2 shepherd the flock of God that is among you,
exercising oversight,[a] not under
compulsion, but willingly, as God would have you;[b] not for
shameful gain, but eagerly; 3 not
domineering over those in your charge, but being examples to the flock. 4 And when the chief Shepherd appears, you will
receive the unfading crown of glory. 5 Likewise,
you who are younger, be subject to the elders. Clothe yourselves, all of you,
with humility toward one another, for “God opposes the proud but gives grace to
the humble.”
6 Humble yourselves, therefore, under the
mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, 7 casting all your anxieties on him, because he
cares for you. 8 Be sober-minded; be
watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking
someone to devour. 9 Resist him, firm
in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced
by your brotherhood throughout the world. 10 And
after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you
to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and
establish you. 11 To him be the
dominion forever and ever. Amen.

Psalm 105:1-15
Tell of All His Wondrous Works
105 Oh give
thanks to the Lord; call upon his name;
make
known his deeds among the peoples!
2 Sing to him, sing praises to him;
tell
of all his wondrous works!
3 Glory in his holy name;
let
the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice!
4 Seek the Lord and his
strength;
seek
his presence continually!
5 Remember the wondrous works that he has
done,
his
miracles, and the judgments he uttered,
6 O offspring of Abraham, his servant,
children
of Jacob, his chosen ones!
7 He is the Lord our God;
his
judgments are in all the earth.
8 He remembers his covenant forever,
the
word that he commanded, for a thousand generations,
9 the covenant that he made with Abraham,
his
sworn promise to Isaac,
10 which he confirmed to Jacob as a statute,
to
Israel as an everlasting covenant,
11 saying, “To you I will give the land of
Canaan
as
your portion for an inheritance.”
12 When they were few in number,
of
little account, and sojourners in it,
13 wandering from nation to nation,
from
one kingdom to another people,
14 he allowed no one to oppress them;
he
rebuked kings on their account,
15 saying, “Touch not my anointed ones,
do
my prophets no harm!”
