John 1:29-42
Behold, the Lamb of God
29 The next day he saw Jesus coming toward
him, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!
30 This is he of whom I said, ‘After me comes
a man who ranks before me, because he was before me.’ 31 I
myself did not know him, but for this purpose I came baptizing with water, that
he might be revealed to Israel.” 32 And
John bore witness: “I saw the Spirit descend from heaven like a dove, and it
remained on him. 33 I myself did not
know him, but he who sent me to baptize with water said to me, ‘He on whom you
see the Spirit descend and remain, this is he who baptizes with the Holy
Spirit.’ 34 And I have seen and have
borne witness that this is the Son[a] of God.”
Jesus Calls the First Disciples
35 The next day again John was standing
with two of his disciples, 36 and he
looked at Jesus as he walked by and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God!” 37 The two disciples heard him say this, and they
followed Jesus. 38 Jesus turned and saw
them following and said to them, “What are you seeking?” And they said to him, “Rabbi” (which means Teacher), “where are you
staying?” 39 He said to them, “Come and you will see.” So they came and saw
where he was staying, and they stayed with him that day, for it was about the
tenth hour.[b] 40 One of the two who heard John speak and followed
Jesus[c] was
Andrew, Simon Peter's brother. 41 He
first found his own brother Simon and said to him, “We have found the Messiah”
(which means Christ). 42 He brought him
to Jesus. Jesus looked at him and said, “You are Simon
the son of John. You shall be called Cephas” (which
means Peter[d]).

Psalm 19
The Law of the Lord Is Perfect
To the choirmaster. A Psalm of David.
19 The
heavens declare the glory of God,
and
the sky above[a] proclaims
his handiwork.
2 Day to day pours out speech,
and
night to night reveals knowledge.
3 There is no speech, nor are there words,
whose
voice is not heard.
4 Their voice[b] goes out
through all the earth,
and
their words to the end of the world.
In them he has set a tent for the sun,
5 which comes out like a bridegroom leaving his chamber,
and,
like a strong man, runs its course with joy.
6 Its rising is from the end of the heavens,
and
its circuit to the end of them,
and
there is nothing hidden from its heat.
7 The law of the Lord is perfect,[c]
reviving
the soul;
the testimony of the Lord is sure,
making
wise the simple;
8 the precepts of the Lord are right,
rejoicing
the heart;
the commandment of the Lord is pure,
enlightening
the eyes;
9 the fear of the Lord is clean,
enduring
forever;
the rules[d] of the Lord are true,
and
righteous altogether.
10 More to be desired are they than gold,
even
much fine gold;
sweeter also than honey
and
drippings of the honeycomb.
11 Moreover, by them is your servant warned;
in
keeping them there is great reward.
12 Who can discern his errors?
Declare
me innocent from hidden faults.
13 Keep back your servant also from
presumptuous sins;
let
them not have dominion over me!
Then I shall be blameless,
and
innocent of great transgression.
14 Let the words of my mouth and
the meditation of my heart
be
acceptable in your sight,
O Lord, my rock and my redeemer.
