Matthew 5:38-42
Retaliation
38 “You have heard that it
was said, ‘An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.’ 39 But
I say to you, Do not resist the one who is evil. But if
anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also. 40 And if anyone would sue you and take your
tunic,[a] let
him have your cloak as well. 41 And if anyone forces
you to go one mile, go with him two miles. 42 Give
to the one who begs from you, and do not refuse the one who would borrow
from you.

Psalm 3
Save Me, O My God
A Psalm of David, when he fled from Absalom his son.
3 O Lord, how many are my foes!
Many
are rising against me;
2 many are saying of my soul,
“There
is no salvation for him in God.” Selah[a]
3 But you, O Lord, are a shield about me,
my
glory, and the lifter of my head.
4 I cried aloud to the Lord,
and
he answered me from his holy hill. Selah
5 I lay down and
slept;
I woke
again, for the Lord sustained
me.
6 I will not be afraid of many thousands
of people
who
have set themselves against me all around.
7 Arise, O Lord!
Save me,
O my God!
For you strike all my enemies on the cheek;
you break
the teeth of the wicked.
8 Salvation belongs to
the Lord;
your
blessing be on your people! Selah

- Psalm 3:2 The meaning of the Hebrew word Selah, used
frequently in the Psalms, is uncertain. It may be a musical or liturgical
