Deuteronomy 26:1-11
Offerings of Firstfruits and Tithes
26 “When
you come into the land that the Lord your God is
giving you for an inheritance and have taken possession of it and live in it,
2 you shall take some of the first of all the
fruit of the ground, which you harvest from your land that the Lord your God is giving you, and you shall put it in a basket, and you
shall go to the place that the Lord your God
will choose, to make his name to dwell there. 3 And
you shall go to the priest who is in office at that time and say to him, ‘I
declare today to the Lord your God that I have come into
the land that the Lord swore to our fathers to give us.’ 4 Then
the priest shall take the basket from your hand and set it down before the
altar of the Lord your God.
5 “And you shall make response before the Lord your God, ‘A wandering Aramean was my father. And he went down into
Egypt and sojourned there, few in number, and there he became a nation, great,
mighty, and populous. 6 And the
Egyptians treated us harshly and humiliated us and laid on us hard labor.
7 Then we cried to the Lord, the God of our fathers, and the Lord heard our
voice and saw our affliction, our toil, and our oppression. 8 And the Lord brought us
out of Egypt with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm, with great deeds of
terror,[a]
with signs and wonders. 9 And he
brought us into this place and gave us this land, a land flowing with milk and
honey. 10 And behold, now I bring the
first of the fruit of the ground, which you, O Lord, have given
me.’ And you shall set it down before the Lord your God
and worship before the Lord your God. 11 And you shall rejoice in all the good that the Lord your God has given to you and to your house, you, and the Levite,
and the sojourner who is among you.

Psalm 107:10-32
10 Some sat in darkness and in
the shadow of death,
prisoners
in affliction and in irons,
11 for they had rebelled against the words of
God,
and
spurned the counsel of the Most High.
12 So he bowed their hearts down with hard
labor;
they
fell down, with none to help.
13 Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble,
and
he delivered them from their distress.
14 He brought them out of darkness and the
shadow of death,
and
burst their bonds apart.
15 Let them thank the Lord for his steadfast love,
for
his wondrous works to the children of man!
16 For he shatters the doors of bronze
and
cuts in two the bars of iron.
17 Some were fools through their
sinful ways,
and
because of their iniquities suffered affliction;
18 they loathed any kind of food,
and
they drew near to the gates of death.
19 Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble,
and
he delivered them from their distress.
20 He sent out his word and healed them,
and
delivered them from their destruction.
21 Let them thank the Lord for his steadfast love,
for
his wondrous works to the children of man!
22 And let them offer sacrifices of thanksgiving,
and
tell of his deeds in songs of joy!
23 Some went down to the sea in
ships,
doing
business on the great waters;
24 they saw the deeds of the Lord,
his
wondrous works in the deep.
25 For he commanded and raised the stormy
wind,
which
lifted up the waves of the sea.
26 They mounted up to heaven; they went down
to the depths;
their
courage melted away in their evil plight;
27 they reeled and staggered like drunken men
and
were at their wits' end.[a]
28 Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble,
and
he delivered them from their distress.
29 He made the storm be still,
and
the waves of the sea were hushed.
30 Then they were glad that the waters[b] were
quiet,
and
he brought them to their desired haven.
31 Let them thank the Lord for his steadfast love,
for
his wondrous works to the children of man!
32 Let them extol him in the congregation of
the people,
and
praise him in the assembly of the elders.
