I
charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the
living and the dead, and by his appearing and his kingdom: 2 preach
the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort,
with complete patience and teaching. (2 Timothy 4:1-2 ESV)
I was watching a show on TV about the Gray
Owl. It seems the Gray Owl lives in the lower branches of large woods and
forests. In this area the tree’s lower branches do not have a lot of green foliage..
The coloring of the Gray Owl makes him blend in so he is very hard to notice.
You most likely would walk right past him without noticing him sitting on the branch.
When he leaves the branch to attack his game, his wings are made so they make
no noise. God designed the Gray Owl so it could easily catch its prey.
I have found myself trying to be just like the Gray Owl,
not being noticed and being able to hide in plain sight. My Bible tells me to
be preaching the Word. They are inspired words from the Holy Spiri, Paul
recorded them. I can also look at the words of Jesus and see the same command
(see Matthew 28:19-20). Being incognito or camouflaged would be my choice, not
God’s.
Occasionally, I find myself in a situation when the conversation turns to religion. When that happens in the past I would go for the silence option. Maybe I would be asked to explain what I believe. There were times when I was with a crowd and my hope was to not be seen, especially as a Christian. Maybe I should lean on the Holy Spirit more rather than on Wess. In my closing days, I have become much more willing to share the Good News. In fact, I now look for opportunities to help someone with the Good News of the Gospel.
The Gray Owl has the ability to blend in to help capture and kill his prey. God did not design us to be Gray Owls but the special people of the Kingdom of God. We should find our prey (the unsaved people) to give them life, not death.
Go out into the world and let your
Christian faith show.
