Luke 13:1-9
Repent or Perish
13 There
were some present at that very time who told him about the Galileans whose
blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices. 2 And
he answered them, “Do you think that these Galileans
were worse sinners than all the other Galileans, because they suffered in this
way? 3 No, I tell you; but unless you
repent, you will all likewise perish. 4 Or
those eighteen on whom the tower in Siloam fell and killed them: do you think
that they were worse offenders than all the others who lived in Jerusalem?
5 No, I tell you; but unless you repent, you
will all likewise perish.”
The Parable of the Barren Fig Tree
6 And he told this parable: “A man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard, and he came seeking
fruit on it and found none. 7 And he
said to the vinedresser, ‘Look, for three years now I have come seeking fruit
on this fig tree, and I find none. Cut it down. Why should it use up the
ground?’ 8 And he answered him, ‘Sir,
let it alone this year also, until I dig around it and put on manure. 9 Then if it should bear fruit next year, well and
good; but if not, you can cut it down.’”
Psalm 103:1-14
Bless the Lord, O My Soul
Of David.
103 Bless
the Lord, O my soul,
and
all that is within me,
bless
his holy name!
2 Bless the Lord, O my soul,
and
forget not all his benefits,
3 who forgives all your iniquity,
who
heals all your diseases,
4 who redeems your life from the pit,
who
crowns you with steadfast love and mercy,
5 who satisfies you with good
so
that your youth is renewed like the eagle's.
6 The Lord works righteousness
and
justice for all who are oppressed.
7 He made known his ways to Moses,
his
acts to the people of Israel.
8 The Lord is merciful
and gracious,
slow
to anger and abounding in steadfast love.
9 He will not always chide,
nor
will he keep his anger forever.
10 He does not deal with us according to our
sins,
nor
repay us according to our iniquities.
11 For as high as the heavens are above the
earth,
so
great is his steadfast love toward those who fear him;
12 as far as the east is from the west,
so
far does he remove our transgressions from us.
13 As a father shows compassion to his
children,
so
the Lord shows compassion to those who fear him.
14 For he knows our frame;[a]
he
remembers that we are dust.
