Walk Worthy

Walk Worthy

1 I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call— one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all. (Ephesians 4:1-5 ESV®)

After being out-of-town for business all week, when I got home my bride told me one of my local customers had called and would like a call back as soon as possible. She said he sounded troubled. I had spent the whole week getting two major computer systems back operational and I figured this was another downed computer system. The gentleman that called was the Information Systems Manager for his company. I did not want to see another broken computer.

I returned his call since my major performance measurement was based on customer satisfaction. The call was not about a computer but a personal problem. He had just been informed his 6-year-old son had Faconi Syndrome and would need to go to the Cleveland Clinic for a bone marrow transplant if a matching donor could be found. Back in the dark ages of 1989, that was about the only treatment. The outlook was not very good. This was their change of life child. He wanted to know if I could come talk with him and his wife on Saturday. The reason he gave for calling me was he has been associated with me for decades and he felt I was a person of deep faith and they needed hope.

When I got off the phone, I called my pastor since I did not know what to do and I was terrified. My pastor told me to be myself, listen, cry with them and reassure them about Jesus’s love. The next morning, me and my Bride (you did not think I would go by myself) headed out to make the visit. It ended up being a very emotional visit. We did listen and cried but when we left there was a real feeling of hope. The family reconnected to a nearby church and benefited from the support and uplifting of their spirits. The son survived less than a year. Good News, the whole family (including the two older children) knew Jesus as their Lord and Savior.

I have found that as I walk through life I am being watched since I wear my love of Jesus openly. Just maybe, as you live your day-to-day life you are being a witness to someone that needs the hope that can only come through knowing the one true Lord and Savior. Share the Good News of Jesus’s love through His death and resurrection in all that you do. What the world needs now is Jesus.

Let the Holy Spirit and the Word be your guide,
