 CURATE’S CORNER

The cross you see resting on the top of the baptismal font is called the San Domiano Crucifix that was painted by an artist from the 1100's. I saw it when I visited a monastery in Assisi, Italy in 1990. Later in 1997, there was an earthquake that destroyed part of the monastery but the San Domiano Crucifix was untouched. On the baptismal font is my 3D replica of this cross. I look at this cross frequently especially during my devotions. It reminds me that we are the baptized, united in God's love, mercy and forgiveness at the cross of Jesus Christ who took upon Himself the sins of the world that shapes our life in the communion of saints. St. Paul says, "I urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call— one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.” (Eph. 4:1-7 ESV). This could be part of our Lenten awareness as we prepare for Holy Week. In Christ, Pastor Dreyer
